Principal Investigator
He obtained his M.D. from Kobe University, Japan, and completed his medical training in cardiology. He also received his Ph.D. from the Kobe Graduate School of Medicine, where he studied T-cell immune responses associated with cardiovascular diseases. He performed his postdoctoral training with Dr. Federico E. Rey at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, where he explored connections between diet-microbiome interactions and cardiometabolic diseases. He joined the faculty of LKCMedicine in 2022, where his research focuses on the gut microbiome, investigating the diet-microbe-host interactions and their effects on cardiometabolic and vascular diseases for the discovery of novel biomarkers and therapeutics.

Research Fellow
Wang Hua
Hua obtained his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Sorbonne University, France, followed by one and a half years of postdoctoral training in the same lab. His research interests how gut microbiota-derived metabolites affect cardiometabolic diseases through cholesterol metabolism and immune regulation.
In his free time, he is passionate about sports, especially football, and loves traveling to explore the world.

Research Fellow
Wu Yuqi
Yuqi obtains her PhD in Medical Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where her research focuses on diet-microbiome interactions in metabolic diseases. Her expertise in dietary nutrition fuels a broader interest in circadian rhythms and personalized dietary care.
Outside of her research, she is passionate about dancing and exploring new scenic sights with friends.

Research Associate
Frisma Eri Saputri
Frisma is a Research Assistant in the Kasahara Lab at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. She obtained her master’s degree at Gyeongsang national University, South Korea. Her main research interests are Genetic Engineering, Microbiology and Gut Microbiome. In her leisure time, she enjoys travelling and trying various foods from around the world.

PhD student
Yi Rou Bah
Yi Rou obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, and Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) from Monash University, Malaysia. During her undergraduate studies, she became fascinated by the intricate world of host-microbiome interactions and their impact on human health. This curiosity led her to pursue graduate studies in the Kasahara lab, where she now investigates the relationship between gut microbiome and metabolic disorders. In her free time, she is a sports enthusiast who enjoys playing badminton and rock climbing.

PhD student
Shaun Tan
Shaun is a PhD student in the Kasahara lab at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. Upon completion of his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences in Nanyang Technological University, he worked as a research associate in a preclinical start-up company that does research on gene therapy for cardiomyopathies. From there, he was motivated to do his PhD research on the link between heart diseases and the gut microbiome. While working on his passion in biology, Shaun likes to spend his free time making filter coffee and doing Pilates.
